There are a great many myths surrounding human yeast and systemic candida. The internet, books and even health care professionals often accept these myths as fact in spite of the fact that no evidence exists to support them. Let’s take a look at some of these more common concepts:
The Candida Diet
The so-called candida diet, made popular by several books, has not real basis of benefit to a systemic yeast condition. You must understand that you do not ‘eat’ candida and what you avoid will not eliminate it. The concept that candida ‘feeds’ off of other yeasts and acids is simply untrue. By consuming foods such as sugars, white flour products, yeasts, etc. you may make some of your symptoms worse, but avoiding these foods will not, ultimately, eliminate your problem. This is evidenced by thousands of people who have told me that no matter how long they follow these terribly restricted diets, their symptoms come right back, often worse than before, as soon as they stop. Just understand that diet has nothing to do with this problem.
Anti-Yeast & Anti-Fungal Drugs
These medications are often very helpful for localized yeast infections such as vaginal or digestive, but once the candida organism escapes these regions and enters the bloodstream, these medications become totally ineffective. In fact there are no drugs currently available that can address systemic candida
Herbal Extracts & Vitamins
Various herbal extract and other nutrients have been touted as being effective in controlling yeast and candida, however for the most part they have proven relatively ineffective. Certainly once the candida has become systemic these compounds are not strong enough to bring about the elimination of the condition.
A note about probiotics: There are many supplement companies that offer excellent probiotics formulas and promote them as being able to eliminate candida. Again, once the organism has become systemic, probiotics, no matter how good or how potent, cannot eliminate the problem. Probiotics can prevent a yeast infection or systemic candida when take at the right time, but once the condition has developed probiotics will not eliminate the problem.
